Greenwing Macaw – A Blast of Color

The Greenwing Macaw

When one buys a pet, one of the most important secondary considerations for his or her choice is that such a creature should be something to brag about. Owners put first priority on looks, but such a standard vastly varies according to individual and cultural styles. Greenwing MacawThere are pet owners who buy dogs, fish, birds, cats and others because they look attractive. Some pet owners want to own creatures on account of their intelligence, while others on account of their playfulness. Certainly, there is one pet bird that possesses good qualities of attractiveness, intelligence and playfulness.

The Greenwing Macaw Habitat

The Greenwing Macaw is a kind of breed that inhabits all around the New World geography, both in North America and South America. They are associated with forests, especially rainforests, yet some of them can be seen inhabiting savannah habitats. Parrots are known for their intelligence and playfulness. But not all parrots possess striking beauty similar to the Greenwing Macaw. What makes the Macaw Parrot so stunning is because they are multicolored. Their kaleidoscopic pattern varies from one species of Macaw Parrot to another. There is what you would call a Scarlet Macaw, a Blue-and-Yellow Macaw, and a Military Macaw. So far they are the most common pattern and class.

Scarlet Macaw is named after its pattern. It has a full body red feather while the wings are naturally painted sky blue. The Military Macaw is named after its distinct green uniform which happens to be of similar palette from a US army uniform. Only its fringes along the wings and the tail are painted differently. The Blue-and-Yellow Macaw is the most well-known pattern of Macaw Parrot among the three, where its full body and tail are yellow while the wings and the top of the head are sky blue.

One thing that remains common among their looks is that they all have spots on around each pair of their eyes which trail down along the side of their cheeks. Each leg had two extremes of their toes, the first and the fourth, pointed backwards parallel with each other. Their are various kinds which outnumber other types of parrots due to their unique pattern of colors.

The Greenwing Macaw Diet

Like all parrots, the wild breed feeds on fresh fruits, vegetables and blossoms. However, there is a unique phenomenon discovered in Peru where Macaw parrots somehow feed on clay licks. There are certain factors that avian scientists have concluded why these Macaw parrots ingest clay. One of the most tangible hypotheses is that a huge portion of the South American geography is far from the coastline and as a result, Macaw parrots eat clay that happens to be rich in sodium. Some have theorized that this habit was motivated by their own breeding season. It is like how human beings exhibit unique patterns of behavior and act in a certain way during Valentine’s Day.

But even when domesticated, Macaw Parrots do exhibit strange and rather erratic eating habits. It is common for a Macaw Parrot to consume toxic foods, like the sap from a sandbox tree. Greenwing Macaw Parrots are believed to be endangered species due directly to environmental factors.
